  Gerald Thompson II Memorial Scholarship

bg1.jpg

I am honored to announce the Gerald Thompson II memorial scholarship. This will be awarded yearly to a hearing-impaired graduating high school senior from the Detroit Mi area.  Gerald was a lifelong resident of Detroit and was born hearing impaired. The three things he loved the most were his wife, son, and his city of Detroit. Despite what some may have seen as a setback, Gerald persevered and never allowed his disability to hinder him in any way.  After graduating from Detroit Pershing High School he went on to obtain a two-year degree in carpentry from Wayne County Community College.  Gerald was funny and loved to make others laugh. However, his time with family and friends was cut short when he suffered a massive stroke at the age of 38.

This scholarship is being awarded on May 1st each year in observation of national stroke awareness month to highlight the importance of stroke awareness.
